An Act of Worship
Let us look at Melchizedek and consider how great this man was, without father or mother, no beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God. In whom Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils on his return from the slaughter (Genesis 14:18-20; Hebrews 7:1-8). The giving of the tithe to Melchizedek (a shadow of Christ) was not out of a covenant made by Jacob (Genesis 28:20-22) nor of a commandment made by God (Numbers 18:21-22), but from acknowledgment that HE LIVES! When we embrace the revelation that giving is an Act of Worship, we experience Christ in a whole new way.
The beloved hymn written by Alfred Henry Ackley in 1933 titled "He Lives" expresses perfectly the mindset of one who Worships through giving; "God sent His Son, they called Him Jesus; He came to love, heal and forgive; He lived and died to buy my pardon, An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!"
